Dr. Suchismita Acharya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Neuroscience at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and a faculty member of the North Texas Eye Research Institute. She is a medicinal chemist and translational scientist with over two decades of experience in drug discovery and development, specializing in small-molecule therapeutics for neurodegenerative and ocular diseases.

Dr. Acharya earned her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and completed postdoctoral training in medicinal chemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to her academic career, she held scientific and project leadership roles at Alcon Laboratories and Novartis, where she contributed to the design and optimization of drug candidates targeting ophthalmologic and neurological conditions.

Her research program integrates medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, bioengineering, and nanotechnology-based drug delivery to develop novel therapeutic molecules. Her work focuses on mechanisms underlying glaucomatous optic neuropathy, Alzheimer’s disease, ischemic stroke, and angiogenesis, with the goal of advancing innovative treatments toward clinical application.

In addition to her academic role, Dr. Acharya is the Founder and CEO of a clinical stage pharmaceutical company AyuVis Research, where she leads the development of next-generation small-molecule immunotherapies targeting inflammatory and infectious diseases in lung, eye and skin disease areas. She is also actively involved in teaching and mentoring across multiple graduate and professional programs at UNTHSC, contributing to the training of future healthcare and biomedical professionals.

Through her work in research, education, and innovation, Dr. Acharya is committed to advancing translational science and improving patient outcomes through the development of impactful therapeutic solutions.
